The Big Anniversary

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. ~ Matthew 16:16-18

I clearly remember 1976. It was a very patriotic year for America. It was our 200th anniversary as a nation. There were all kinds of celebrations, parades, and many historical remembrances. It has been almost 50 years since our bicentennial. In 2026 we celebrate our 250th year anniversary as a nation. I am sure that I will not be around in another 50 years so this probably will be my last one of this type of celebrations for our nation’s birthday.

Lately, I have been announcing a big anniversary that the Christian church has coming up soon. It is nearly 2,000 years since the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The exact date is not clearly known. One fact is clear, it will not be when most of the world celebrates it. The world will celebrate it in the year 2033. This is because Jesus was 33 when He was crucified and most of the world believes that He was born in the year 0. This is incorrect! There is so much proof that Jesus was born sometime between 6bc and 4bc. The most obvious proof is that King Herod died in the year 4bc. He was the king that talked to the Wisemen and tried to kill Jesus by killing all of the boys that were 2 years and under because that was when the star first appeared over Israel.

I am convinced that the actual anniversary of the Christian Church is in the year 2027! This will be 6 years before anyone else starts to think about it. I find it exciting that I will probably see this big anniversary. Please join me in celebrating the Bimillennial and in looking for ways to celebrate what God is doing in the world through His Church.

In Christ, Pastor Ken
