Message From The Pastor
Easter's Reminder
But about the resurrection of the dead--have you not read what God said to you, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living. When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching. ~ Matthew 22:31-33 (NIV 84)
We are about to enter the Easter season. Weather-wise we are transitioning from winter to spring. The grass is slowly turning green again, the trees are starting to bud and the flowers are beginning to show. Soon, all the birds will return and earth will be fully alive with their melodious singing. I am so grateful for this reminder of the hope that we have as believers in Jesus Christ that our earthly existence is not all that there is. Our current existence is metaphorically like winter. Our next life is like spring in which the old things pass away and something new and exhilarating takes its place.
Along with this, I have so many friends who have left this life and have moved on to their new chapter of life. These friends had a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and are no longer here on earth. Easter is a reminder to me that they still exist. I love the passage above where Jesus reminds his listeners that God is not the God of the dead but of the living. He lists Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as illustrations that they are not dead but their existence continues. God is still the God of our loved ones even if we cannot see them. This is a good reminder and it is an extreme encouragement. In a way, we are the ones who are to be pitied. We are still in our winter, they have moved on to spring!
I have so many friends who are with Jesus. I know that there will also come a time when I say goodbye to my friends and family here on earth and will go there as well. My God sees to it that I continue. This is my hope and my Easter reminder!
Looking forward to Real Spring, Pastor Ken
